Lewis, Clark, and Seaman

The Museum offers two STEAM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Art/Math) programs to students from middle schoo levell through high school.  

These innovative programs are geared for several learning levels and contain multiple modules.  They foster young entrepreneurs, historians, leaders, scientists and teachers by providing the opportunity to study and practice one or more skills in each of the five STEAM areas. Our programs are available for lower through upper school levels, home schoolers and Scout groups.

Exploring a New America focuses on the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition of 1804-06. The series takes a new look at the expedition's crew members, including Seaman, the Newfie who excelled at many tasks and completed the 8000 mile trip with the crew! 

A second program, Diving into History, explores the 1559 Emanuel Point shipwreck in Pensacola Bay FL.  Cat remains and artifacts found aboard one of the investigated ships were thoroughly analyzed, resulting in a fascinating story about the fleet and attempts to colonize the area.  "Luna" describes the history of the sunken fleet, as well as life aboard from a cat's point of view.  Underwater archaeology methods and missions are examined, using exercises and projects geared to middle schoolers.
